THE Elated DIVORCE had been perhaps the most valuable stage musical of Fred Astaire’s Broadway career. Though out the 1920s, he had been the lesser half of the most eminent dance team in American entertainment: Adele and Fred Astaire. Fred’s sister, an enormously gifted droll dancer, had been the center of the act throughout their career, but when she retired to marry English royalty, Fred was placed in the status of needing to reinvent himself and catch his career. Somewhat unexpectedly, Fred’s spacious success in THE Contented DIVORCE established him not fair as a funny dancer, but as a romantic one as well. An offer by Hollywood to advance and remake the stage success as a film was celebrated.

Fred arrived in Hollywood, but his studio, RKO cast him in FLYING TO RIO before beginning THE Gratified DIVORCE. Although he was fifth billed and the third billed male, his dance numbers with a contract dancer RKO had impartial obtained from Warner Brothers, Ginger Rogers, were the hit of the film. Against his wishes, RKO suggested casting Rogers in THE Pleased DIVORCE because of their success as a team in FLYING TO RIO. That was what Fred was alarmed of: a team. He had objective managed to crash free from being notion of as the lesser half of Adele and Fred, and he was hesitant about a recent partner. But RKO won out and, as they say, history was made.

THE Delighted DIVORCE was fast redubbed THE Blissful DIVORCEE (the Hays office objecting that divorces could not be joyful but were instead always sorrowful affairs, although a divorcee could be) . Fred was given nearly complete artistic control of his dance numbers, and instead of the highly choreographed numbers popularized by Busby Berkeley at Warner Brothers, Fred argued for filming his scenes with cameras unprejudiced barely above ground level, and as conclude to one shot as was possible. The result was an emphasis not on visual pyrotechnics, but on the intimacy and emotions in the dance.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Gay Divorcee! Click Here

The results were resplendent. Although most of the songs from the stage musical were jettisoned, the greatest was kept, and in many ways it remains one of the mythic numbers in the history of musical cinema: Cole Porter’s “Night and Day.” The number defined for all time what Fred and Ginger were all about. Until this moment in the film, Fred had been futilely chasing Ginger, only to be rebuffed time and again. But once he begins to enlighten “Night and Day” she begins to have a twinge of interest. And once he grabs her arm and begins to dance with her, we manage to study one of the tremendous seduction scenes in the movies. At the beginning of the song, she mild has no interest in him; at the waste of the dance, they are in worship. Although Ginger was never Fred’s equal as a dancer, she was fantastic in the manner in which she could retort emotionally to him in their dancing. Their dancing is so very nearly like love-making that we are not at all surprised that as the dance ends, and Fred’s gently spins and lowers Ginger onto a couch, he rocks wait on on his heels, reaches into his jacket, and pulls out his cigarette and offers one to her. It is as perfect a moment as exists in film.

THE Jubilant DIVORCEE succeeds primarily because of Fred and Ginger’s astounding magic together, but it is also a delight because of the incredible comedic cast. Erik Rhodes, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, had only two valuable roles, both times as an Italian in two classic Astaire-Rogers films. In this film and in TOP HAT, he manages to choose nearly every scene he is in. Edward Everett Horton and Eric Blore both were so perfect in their roles that they reappeared in several other Astaire-Rogers films. Alice Brady brings her classic insanity to the film.

The film, of course, achieved Fred Astaire’s worst fears, and gave him a unusual partner. But given the amazing success of Astaire and Rogers, I don’t deem anyone believes that this was in any sense an depressed turn of events.

Fred Astaire plays a dnacer returning to England from a slip abroad. In the Customs shed he meets Ginger Rogers in an embarassing jam. He tries to fetch out who she is, but she refuses to allege him, and he spends ages searching London for her until he finally tracks her down and begins to awaken her interest. Ginger goes down to Brighton with her friend dithery much-married Alice Brady, and Astaire and his dithery lawyer friend Edward Everett Horton go in pursuit. Ginger has gone to Brighton to try and salvage a divorce, she intends to utilize the night with a professional co-respondent. Somthing Astaire says makes her consider he is the co-respondent, which puts her just off him. Fortunately the proper co-respondent, a small Italian, turns up (”your wife is capable with Tonetti,he hold spaghetti”) and the mystery is sorted out. But what will happen when Ginger’s husband arrives the next morning? will she regain her divorce. This is a unbelievable film, with a laughable but extremley amusing position, and some astounding dialogue, particularly between Horton and Brady, who somehow manage to kill up married to each other, worthy to their surprise. An absolutely delectable film.

I don’t know about the rest of the MJ fans in the world, but I am really frustrated with Amazon listing all of these MJ DVDs and products that don’t announce us what we are buying, yet they request us to plunk down our hard-earned cash fair because it has “Michael Jackson” in the title? What interviews will be on these DVDs? I feel resplendent confident in saying that MJ fans will NOT want to be buying any product that supports Martin Bashir and his “documentary” which was nothing but salicious lies about MJ and his life at Neverland. Or, how about the “MJ Megabox” with a report of him painted with a clown face. There is no product description for that either, yet Amazon expects us to blindly recall it because we cherish MJ? I would like to have more of MJ on film, but not if it means putting money into the pockets of the people that killed him. And with all of these “MJ products” coming out “every day” how can we know if it is something MJ celebrated of before he passed or that his estate approves of and profits from; or if it is objective another person or company jumping on the disgusting bandwagon of bloodsucking leeches that want to obtain a rapidly buck off the death of MJ?

I have made the mistake in the past of blindly pre-ordering a couple of Michael Jackson videos without there being any customer reviews and was very disappointed by the merchandise in seek information from.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Michael Jackson: The Interviews, Vol. 1! Click Here

They were both nasty with generic music playing in the background, and they were both almost copycat videos of each other. What a gargantuan raze of money.

It seems like people are coming out of the woodwork to capitalize on his death, and his devoted fans are looking to recall anything honest to occupy onto him a cramped while longer because we are all aloof in mourning over him.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Michael Jackson: The Interviews, Vol. 1! Click Here

I won’t develop that mistake again. I want to remember him and his words, not the things other people said about him, and though I am very engrossing to know what these interview videos are all about, I will also wait until people post some reviews before I raze more money on garbage.

By the scheme, the videos that ended up being a total demolish of money were Michael Jackson “Never Surrender” and “A Distinguished Life.” Don’t throw your money away. They were both very cheap and poorly done.

I am tranquil amazed at the number of people who haven’t seen this movie! Mr. Stewart even narrates, here and there, throughout the epic, this incredible chronicle of his summer vacation with his family at a rented beach house, along with the family maid. There is a running gag throughout the recount about the plumbing and the maid misunderstands the English language, and Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs try very hard to understand their adorable teen-age daughter (Lauri Peters) who falls in care for with an adorable boy (played by none other than Fabian!), who shows up at the local dance and then there’s a son who prefers to glimpse westerns on TV all day and night. There’s a sexpot neighbor that lives in a nearby beach house who attempts to read War and Peace, and later the Hobb’s daughters exhibit up with the misbehaving grandchildren and want nothing to do with “Boompa”, otherwise known as Mr.Hobbs! Don’t miss the scene when Jimmy Stewart bird-watches with his son-in-in-law’s boss and learns “the top-notch lag”. The chemistry between Maureen O’Hara and James Stewart is so amazing, it’s no wonder they were so successful in several films together! She is so convincing as the jealous wife, especially when Jimmy innocently tries to wait on his son-in-law’s boss’s wife (Marie Wilson) while she is in the shower and runs into anguish……..don’t miss it, you’ll laugh all the plan through this valid movie. Let’s hope Twentieth Century Fox soon gives us a widescreen DVD version with extras, like an interview with Maureen O’Hara & Lauri Peters!

I have seen this movie about ten times. Recently I recommended it to a friend who is going through a depression. It is guaranteed to bring one out of any doldrums. Why? Because it is soooo very

funny!

Scene after scene did in my droll bones. I laughed until my tummy ached. Honorable are Stewart and O’Hara, but Marie Wilson(Remember “My Friend, Irma”) and John McGiver are more than obedient in their roles. They play a couple of ’supposed to be’ tea totlers who are guests in the seaside, summer house rented by Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs played by Stewart and O’Hara. Wilson’s steamy shower scene and McGiver’s lessons in birdwatching are unprejudiced about the funniest I have seen on shroud in almost sixty years. I spot this film with tall comedies such as: “The Egg and I.” and “As Kindly As It Gets” “Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation” IS as kindly as it ever gets.

I bought Blood: The Last Vampire because I’m not a broad Anime fan, but really savor this movie’s beauty and tale. Seeing it on DVD, I knew the video would observe titanic on the PSP cloak, and for that most fragment, that’s suitable. Also, the movie is about 45 minutes long, so the PSP is a tremendous outlet for it as opposed to a painfully long feature film (I capture to eye TV shows and shorter films on the PSP because I rarely have long spans of time to devote to PSP-filmwatching) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blood - The Last Vampire! Click Here

The dreadful news is related to the video quality itself. The studio converted the video to UMD as a matted-widescreen version (not certain of the technical term), so when you first play it, you pick up a limited widescreen narrate with “sunless bars” on ALL FOUR SIDES. You must exhaust the “Zoom” option under the PSP reveal menu for the relate to fit proper. A minor annoyance, but worth mentioning.

Also, the black-level is washed out. I’ve found that watching the UMD at the lowest brightness setting on the PSP mask is most factual color-wise, but with such radiant animation, it’s black to search for the inequity couldn’t be nudged up some. I don’t know if this represents studio laziness, but I understand this is current on UMDs.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blood - The Last Vampire! Click Here

Ultimately, captivating and a big flick for the UMD format, but not perfect.

Your basic vampire is perfectly noble to anime — splendid, seductive, and opulant.

Well, most of them, anyway. Things are a bit different in “Blood: The Last Vampire,” an anime movie that bravely throws out most of the vampire preconceptions, as well as spot exposition. It’s not a total success storywise, but it’s an effectively sunless, spiteful share of bloody action.

As the movie opens, we scrutinize a mysterious young girl, Saya, on a enlighten. When the lights go out, she savagely attacks a man at the other raze of the instruct with a sword.

It turns out the man was a Chiropteran — a sort of bat-vampire. When her coworkers reach to shapely up the mess, Saya learns that the Chiropterans have infiltrated the general public — and she has to go undercover at a girls’ high school advance an American military inferior. She isn’t delighted about it, but goes anyway.

Saya begins snooping around for evidence of Chiropterans, and finds it — a pair are disguised as ordinary high school girls. But when she corners them, a alarmed nurse accidentally gets keen in the bloodbath that ensues — and a deadly cat-and-mouse game between the mysterious Saya and her grisly prey.

“Blood: The Last Vampire” is one of those movies where the residence isn’t the overwhelming force. In fact, the sincere record isn’t powerful — it feels like tuning into an episode of a weekly TV reveal, without great explanation for who Saya is and what is going on. And after the first third, the movie is lovely noteworthy entirely devoted to “Saya hacks and slashes her map through the school while the nurse screams a lot.”

But the visual presentation is pretty — every scenes is saturated with shadows and vague, pale light. And while many scenes are level-headed and almost motionless, the action scenes explode with kinetic energy, splashes of gore, and occasionally a raging fire. And when Saya jumps into action, the entire world seems to hurry up into a blur of violence and splattered blood.

One thing you have to say — there are no stereotypically lovely, European vampires here. There’s only Saya — a cold-eyed girl who looks like Angelina Jolie’s gothy baby sister — and a lot of grotesque bat creatures, with mountainous muzzles and ample claws. The most “human” person here is probably the horrified nurse, but we never really pick up to know her until the ruin.

“Blood: The Last Vampire” isn’t too tremulous about having a region, but for splattery action and fast-moving vampire battles, it’s a dismal diversion.

First of all the Amish women wear white prayer veilings/ coverings. They are not bonnets. Bonnets are murky and/or gloomy blue and frail over the prayer veiling.

This movie moved me to tears. I am a Mennonite who grew up among the Outmoded Order Amish and Archaic Order Mennonites in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Many visitors do not understand our arrangement of life. People complain that the Amish are not well educated, well honest last week I had an 8 year dilapidated Amish girl wait on me at her father’s store. She tallied the five items that I bought on a battery operated cash register and cheerfully gave me the fair change counting it out into my hand. This is in such disagreement to the urban young man I met about a month ago at McDonalds who although he gave me the wrong change, argued with me for about three minutes until he finally, finally saw that he had made a mistake and then calm had a major attitude because I pointed out that he had given me the unsuitable change.

Many people do not understand us of Anabaptist origins. They romanticize the Amish, they act like they are somehow holier than thou, etc. etc. The Amish themselves realize how human they are.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Devil’s Playground! Click Here

We are descendants of the most radical hover of the Reformation. Only once you are an adult and are able to determine for yourself are you expected to “join church” and rob that baptismal tell. The Amish buy that promise perhaps too strongly. My occupy parents suggested that “you join our church because you are living with us now, but when you fade away from home feel free to join another church.”

Perhaps the most though-provoking fragment of the movie to me is when Faron takes out the Ausbund, the oldest Protestant hymnbook in continuous exercise and talks about the people from the 16th century being able to die for their faith. In spite of talking like a street hoodlum, Faron respects the deep conviction that our Anabaptist foreparents had in being willing to die for their faith. He says “those people were willing to die for their faith, man I don’t know if I could do that.”

I am somewhat passionate in my defense of the Amish faith. The movie represents that ALL young people go through this phase. However, not all are as rebellious as these young people. Many remain at home and eventually join the church of their parents without being too wild. Some gatherings are hymnsings and not wild beer, drug induced orgies. The filmmaker of course would not have been able to interview such young people, because they would not allow themselves to be interviewed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Devil’s Playground! Click Here

This film is to be commended for its documentation of young Amish persons who are going through a rite of passage. The human spirit remains bouyant and almost 90% rejoin the church of their parents. Remaining in the Amish community has been likened by some in choosing to join a religious order. There is safety, contentment and acceptance for you if you follow the Ordnung.

If anyone has further questions, feel free to email me at the address listed here.

If all you know about the Amish comes from seeing the movie “Contemplate” or passing the occasional buggy by the side of the road, many of the images in Lucy Walker’s understated documentary will be jarring. Girls in 19th century dresses chug beer from plastic cups, a small-time Amish crank dealer hides his stash inside a matchbox, and teenagers dance at a raucous party that, apart from the white bonnets dotting the crowd, could be happening anywhere. The substantial achievement of Walker’s film is to point to how this is all less incongruous than it seems.

When Amish teenagers turn sixteen they are encouraged to leave their communities and experience the pleasures and conveniences of life in the outside “English” world. This period is called Rumspringa (literally “running around”) and is intended to ensure that the Amish who arrive wait on into the fold will have made a conscious choice to do so. The appeal to free will is well-intentioned, but ultimately disingenuous. When given their first taste of adult freedom, Amish teenagers do what any other teenagers do: they drink too noteworthy, have sex, and utilize a lot of time driving around in cars. For most teenagers this is objective a phase. For the Amish it’s the preliminary to the most principal decision of their life: whether or not to join the Amish church. The subjects of Walker’s documentary are no better prepared for the trials of adolescence than any other group of sixteen year olds, and it comes as no surprise that most of them, after a few tumultuous years, seem ready to return to a scheme of life that represents family, security, and a rock-solid sense of identity.

Rumspringa, an Amish elder says at one point, is really a vaccination. You fetch unbiased enough of a taste of the outside world so that when you give it up you won’t wonder what you’re missing. His candor is winning, as is the level-headedness of most of the Amish elders Walker interviews. Her main subjects are the kids, but they are in many ways like deeply religious small-town kids anywhere: confused and self-obsessed, but basically decent, and given to projecting a theological dimension onto the normal disaster of growing up. Beneath the irregular clothing is a familiar conflict between piety and hell-raising.

It’s in the interviews with Amish adults that the most captivating aspects of Amish society are revealed. Despite the horse-and-buggy trappings, the Amish are not opposed to technology per se, honest technology that they mediate disruptive to their plan of life. So cars and televisions are out, but a solar-powered battery charger is handsome. (You can imagine a hippie commune reaching a similar conclusion after noteworthy earnest debate.) Their attitude towards sex, while hardly permissive, is surprisingly laid-back and pragmatic: a runt premarital fooling around can be overlooked as long as it leads to an Amish marriage and Amish children. The adults interviewed for this film approach across as relaxed and candid, and have none of the prickly self-righteousness you net in other religious conservatives. Their condemnations of the outside world are rote, without any exact heat. It appears that in choosing never to rob the new world, either as participants or evangelicals, they feel microscopic need to either deem it or defend themselves. In their inwardness, the Amish seem more like Hasidic Jews than Christian fundamentalists.

But Hassids smooth drive cars. Despite their conviction, you smooth reach away wondering how long the Amish device of life can last. In one telling interview, a preacher bemoans the contrivance work has changed. Fifty years ago, he says, Amish children would have stayed home and helped out on the farm. Now they go to work in a factory, accumulate some money, and the next thing you know, they want to pick a car. Now here’s a battle that started wait on when everyone drove a horse and buggy. For family ties and religious values to overwhelm teenage rebellion is the easy section. The hard share comes when an agrarian intention of life squares off against factory jobs and pocket money.

It was pathetically erroneous. The sole source they cited was the Secret History, and they had a Professor of Asiatic studies from Columbia U for historical advisor; yet, even ignoring the usual ‘they were vicious barbarians’ slant, the part was riddled with mistakes. The first thing I caught was a misquote from the Secret History citing the account of the five brothers as a chronicle about Chingghis’s immediate family. After that I paid more careful attention. They did not mention his name ‘Temujin’ once but rather saying he was born ‘Genghis’. How can they claim to be biography and not even mention the man’s name? They went so far as to claim his wife and mother started the war between him and Jamuga out of jealousy over their tickled admire. Another glairing mistake was the when and why of invading the Song. They glossed over any political interaction as Genghis ‘finding an excuse to go to war’. For an amateur historian like me to so easily station as many mistakes as I did is heavenly dim. A extinguish of money!

How could history be save so simply like A&E does in every biography I bought about China and Asian history? I try to understand these works are for the general public, but the conclusion is that general public is being mislead with this kind of material. My first experience was with the Mao’s biography, then with the one about Marco Polo. The worst is that I bought also the Pol Pot and Chiang Kaishek biographies and have not seen them yet.

The Gengis Khan biography is stout of awkward commentaries with emphasis on a supossed bloody nature of the mongols. They were no bloodier than were the rest of societies that engaged on conquest, to say the europeans themselves. The Gengis Khan was more than strategist and a ruthless leader of hordes and tribes from Mongolia.

There is no analisys about the rising of the Yuan dinasty that was created after the mongols took CHina and the cultural, historical and political implications of the east-west contact.

The emphasis is save on extremely doubtful anecdotaries, that produces a sensasionalist legend about the creator of the biggest empire of the world history.

Season three: How can the cast of Buffy even hope to top the shapely second season? Well, for starters the very first episode is immense. In “ANNE”, serene hurting from the events that occurred at the ruin of season 2, Buffy tries to forget her past and lives in another town working a waitress job until a girl recognizes her and asks for her serve. Buffy realizes who and what she is and returns to Sunnydale, where the Scoobies have been filling in for the Slayer’s absence. Then there is the addition of a recent Slayer, Faith (Eliza Dukshu…remember her in Correct Lies? All grown up!!) who appears in Sunnydale as a much ally for the Buffy and the scoobies. This is short-lived though, as she soon becomes one of their greatest threats. The foreshadowing of plotlines in the second season become apparent as this season’s villain is introduced…none other than the mayor of Sunnydale, who is attempting to ascend into a true/pure demon.

This season boasts many of the show’s strongest episodes such as “The Wish”, where Cordelia unknowingly makes a wish to a vengeance demon (Anyanka, who becomes the Anya we all worship to laugh at later) and wishes that Buffy never came to Sunnydale. This episode is mammoth, as we eye an alternate reality where Buffy left California and never stopped the Master from rising and as a result, he succeeded in opening the Hellmouth. Truly one of the better episodes. We also are given a taste of foreshadowing in later episodes…Buffy’s sister Dawn (to advance in season 5) is mentioned in a glimmer of dialogue that will remain meaningless until two years later (can you come by the episode? Hint…listen to both Faith and Buffy talk in the later epsiodes) . Faith is terrific as Buffy’s nemesis, a Slayer honest like her. Oh, did I mention Angel returns from a hell dimension as well?

The scoobies obtain their bear star time as well. In “THE ZEPPO”, Xander proves that he is more than unbiased the outmoded portion of the group, adept at getting them donuts and not noteworthy else. In “THE WISH” and “DOPPLEGANGLAND”, we gain to witness a Vamp Willow…very curious and two of the season’s best episodes. This season also brings us more of the Watcher’s Council, the mysterious group that Giles works for including Wesley, who later leaves to back Angel and Cordelia in Los Angeles in the spin-off note Angel. And finally, we regain to glimpse the Scoobies graduate in a very typical Sunnydale fashion…with a broad battle. It was hard to top season two, but this season is more of Joss Whedon’s masterpiece of television; let people and critics shun it…we all know mountainous TV when we observe it.

While many people claim that Season Two is the best season ever of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I favor Season Three instead. It features the introduction of fan favorites Eliza Dushku (as Faith, a renegade Slayer) and Emma Caulfield (as Anya, veteran “patron saint” of scorned women) as well as a keeps-you-guessing storyline. Season Three is also the most consistent season - there are no “stinker” episodes like Season Two’s “Dreadful Eggs” or Season Four’s “Beer Dreadful.”
